The Aeris is not simply a cosmetic update of the outgoing Tigor. Tata has given the car a noticeably different exterior design, a redesigned cabin, more features and a wider range of convenience and safety equipment. It also continues with petrol and factory-fitted CNG powertrain choices, along with manual and AMT gearbox options.
With the new Aeris, Tata is clearly trying to give buyers looking for an affordable compact sedan something different from the usual choices. Here is everything you need to know about the new Tata Aeris.
Tata Aeris Price and Variants
The 2026 Tata Aeris starts at Rs 5.29 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. This makes the entry-level version Rs 40,000 cheaper than the Tigor it replaces.
The sedan is available in multiple variants and with both petrol and petrol+CNG powertrains. Depending on the variant, customers can choose between a 5-speed manual transmission and a 5-speed AMT.
An interesting point is that Tata will continue offering the Xpres for fleet customers, while the Aeris will be sold exclusively to private buyers.
Bookings are open through authorised Tata dealerships and the company's official website. Deliveries are scheduled to begin from October 11.
Tata Aeris Gets a Completely New Look
The biggest change over the outgoing Tigor is probably the exterior design. Tata has moved away from the older styling and given the Aeris a sharper and more contemporary appearance.
At the front, the sedan gets a slim gloss-black grille positioned between rectangular LED headlamps. The bumper has a sculpted design and also incorporates LED fog lamps, giving the front end a wider and more modern appearance.
The side profile retains the characteristic notchback-style roofline, which has always made Tata's compact sedan look slightly different from conventional three-box sedans.
The Aeris also gets newly designed 15-inch alloy wheels, a shark-fin antenna and Aeris badging on the lower section of the front doors.
One unusual styling element is the use of wheel arch cladding. It is more commonly associated with SUVs and crossovers, so its presence on a compact sedan gives the Aeris a somewhat crossover-inspired character.
At the rear, the sedan gets a high bootlid, roof spoiler and connected LED tail lamps. The tail lamp design appears to take some inspiration from Tata's newer products, including the Curvv.
The rear bumper houses the number plate and reverse lamp towards its lower section, giving the boot area a clean appearance.
Six Colour Options Available
Tata is offering the Aeris in six exterior colours. The available shades are:
Dandeli Drizzle
Daytona Grey
Nitro Crimson
Dune Glow
Pure Grey
Pristine White
Customers can also opt for dual-tone versions with a black roof.
Among these colours, Nitro Crimson gives the sedan a particularly youthful appearance, while Daytona Grey and Pure Grey offer a more understated look. The dual-tone treatment is likely to appeal to buyers looking for a sportier appearance.
Tata Aeris Interior Gets a More Premium Feel
Step inside the new Aeris and the difference from the outgoing Tigor becomes more noticeable. Tata has taken inspiration from the recently updated Tiago for the dashboard layout, but the Aeris gets a lighter beige and cream colour theme.
The lighter cabin should make the interior feel more spacious, especially considering the car's compact exterior dimensions.
The dashboard features an angular design with fabric inserts and a two-spoke steering wheel finished in matte black. The overall layout is familiar to those who have seen Tata's latest compact cars, but the lighter colour combination gives the Aeris its own identity.
AMT variants also get paddle shifters, allowing the driver to take manual control of gear changes when required.
The centre console houses rotary climate-control switches, a wireless charging pad and phone dock. Higher versions also feature a rotary gear selector and a central armrest.
For rear passengers, Tata has added dedicated rear AC vents and a centre armrest with cupholders. These additions should make longer journeys more comfortable for passengers sitting in the back.
419-Litre Boot Space
Despite its compact dimensions, the Tata Aeris offers a claimed 419-litre boot space.
This is one of the practical advantages of choosing a sedan over a similarly sized hatchback. The boot should be sufficient for everyday luggage and can also be useful for families travelling on longer journeys.
The available CNG system uses Tata's dual-cylinder arrangement, which has been designed to make better use of the available space.
Feature List is One of the Aeris' Strong Points
The new Tata Aeris comes with a fairly long equipment list, particularly considering its starting price.
The dashboard features a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It is paired with a six-speaker audio system.
Other convenience features include automatic climate control, cruise control and a wireless phone charger. The car also gets ventilated front seats, power-adjustable and auto-folding ORVMs, a height-adjustable driver's seat and keyless entry.
Push-button start/stop and a semi-digital instrument cluster are also available.
These features give the Aeris a more modern feel and help it compete with newer compact sedans that have increasingly focused on technology and convenience.
Tata Aeris Safety Features
Safety has also received considerable attention in the new sedan.
The Aeris comes with six airbags as standard, along with three-point seatbelts and reminders for all occupants. Rear parking sensors and ISOFIX child-seat anchors are also part of the safety package.
Higher variants add additional electronic safety and driver-assistance features.
These include Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill Hold Assist, rain-sensing wipers and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
The top versions also get a dashcam, rollover mitigation and a 360-degree camera with blind-view monitoring.
The availability of these features in a compact sedan is significant because buyers in this segment are increasingly looking beyond basic equipment and are paying more attention to safety technology.
Petrol and CNG Engine Options
Under the bonnet, the Tata Aeris continues with the familiar 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine.
In petrol form, the engine produces 86 PS of maximum power and 113 Nm of torque.
The factory-fitted CNG version produces 76 PS and 97 Nm.
Both powertrain options are available with a five-speed manual transmission, while selected variants also get a five-speed AMT.
Tata Aeris Engine Specifications
The availability of CNG is particularly important in the compact sedan segment, where running costs remain an important consideration for buyers.
The AMT option, meanwhile, should appeal to customers who primarily drive in busy city traffic and want the convenience of an automatic transmission without moving to a more expensive conventional automatic gearbox.
Tata Aeris vs Maruti Dzire, Honda Amaze and Hyundai Aura
The new Tata Aeris enters a segment that already has several established names.
The Maruti Suzuki Dzire remains one of the best-known compact sedans in India and is available with a modern feature package and efficient powertrain options. Its extensive sales and service network is another important factor for buyers.
The Honda Amaze takes a slightly more premium approach to the segment. It offers a refined petrol engine, a well-finished cabin and advanced driver-assistance features on selected versions.
The Hyundai Aura continues to attract buyers with its compact dimensions, smooth powertrains and comfortable ride. It is also available in both private and fleet markets.
The Aeris, however, brings a different combination of styling, features, CNG availability and pricing to the segment.
Is the Tata Aeris a New Beginning for Tata's Compact Sedan?
The Tigor gave Tata a presence in the compact sedan market for several years, but the segment has changed considerably. Buyers today expect more features, better safety equipment, modern interiors and lower running costs.
The new Aeris attempts to address these expectations with a completely refreshed design and a much longer feature list.
Its starting price of Rs 5.29 lakh also gives Tata a strong entry point, although the actual price difference between variants becomes more significant as buyers move towards higher trims.
The combination of petrol, CNG, manual and AMT options gives customers considerable flexibility.
For Tata, the Aeris is therefore more than just another compact sedan. It represents an attempt to give the brand a fresh product in a segment where practicality and value continue to matter.
Final Thoughts
The 2026 Tata Aeris brings a fresh identity to Tata's compact sedan lineup. Its new exterior styling, lighter cabin, 10.25-inch infotainment system, six-airbag standard safety package and multiple powertrain choices make it considerably more feature-focused than a basic entry-level sedan.
The factory-fitted CNG option adds another layer of practicality, while the AMT variants should make the car more convenient for urban driving.
Whether the Aeris can make a significant impact in a segment dominated by established models will depend on its real-world fuel efficiency, ride quality, performance, refinement and ownership experience. Those aspects will become clearer once the car is driven extensively.
For now, Tata has certainly given the compact sedan segment another interesting option, with the Aeris starting at Rs 5.29 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
